“Why
Won't Waxman And The Media Tell The Truth About Abstinence?”
"One
thing is very clear for our children, abstaining from sex
is the most effective means of preventing the sexual transmission
of HIV, STDs and preventing pregnancy."
--
Alma Golden, deputy assistant Health and Human Services Secretary |
Recently
Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) issued a phenomenally biased report,
created by his own staff, condemning abstinence programs aimed
at American teenagers. He made
outrageous claims that were dutifully carried by all
of the major media with few, if any, questions asked.
For example, The Washington Post article started with
this paragraph:
"‘ Many American youngsters
participating in federally funded abstinence-only programs
have been taught over the past three years that abortion
can lead to sterility and suicide, that half the gay male
teenagers in the United States have tested positive for the
AIDS virus, and that touching a person's genitals can result
in pregnancy,' a congressional staff analysis has found." |
Alma Golden, deputy assistant Health and Human Services Secretary
for population affairs, said the Waxman report took statements
out of context to present the programs in the worst possible light.
“These issues have been raised before and
discredited," Golden said. |
Meanwhile, The Centers for Disease Control
Publishes The Truth And Gets Ignored
Shortly after the Waxman propaganda fest, the highly respected
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued their own report which
accurately stated, "Sexual activity declined
significantly for younger teenage girls and for teenage boys between
1995 and 2002,… according to a new study released today by the
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The study compares
new findings from the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth with
the previous survey conducted in 1995."
The
numbers are very encouraging across the board. There
have been dramatic improvements in every category thanks in
no small part to abstinence programs. The
report makes it clear that the number of girls aged 15 to 17 who
have had intercourse has declined from 38 percent in 1995 to 30
percent in 2002; a 22% improvement. For boys the decline was 43
to 31 percent; an improvement of 28%.
Unfortunately the statistics just don't fit the media's agenda.
The facts are that nearly 70% of American teens under the
age of 17 have NEVER been sexually active. And the numbers
are getting better every year.
Instead, the media has chosen to promote the claims of an anti-life
radical in congress who shares their agenda - over the
non-partisan facts from one of the world's most respected health
research organizations.
Waxman's Radical Agenda = Hollywood's Anti-Family
Agenda
To
understand why a congressman like Waxman would blatantly distort
the truth, you have to know who he represents. Waxman is
Hollywood 's “man in Washington ”, with a district that includes
Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Malibu. Many feel he has
never seen an abortion he didn't like or a lifestyle he found troubling.
Given his constituents, it's probably safe to say he has only one
job in the nation's capitol - do everything possible to promote
Hollywood 's ability to destroy the family.
Among other things Waxman has received an amazing 100%
approval rating from Planned Parenthood, the nation's
leading anti-life organization. Planned Parenthood has spent
years and countless dollars trying to discredit abstinence programs
because they offer an alternative to abortions on demand. If
the truth that abstinence works became widely known they would
be out of business.
The Media Is Only Too Happy To Give Waxman
The Microphone
Despite
Waxman's obvious and documented bias toward abortion over abstinence,
the media gave his "report" front-page coverage. Have
you seen or heard anything about the scientific study conducted
by the CDC that shows abstinence programs are working?
Not surprisingly, recent surveys report that members of
the media are overwhelmingly pro-abortion. While they
will never admit it, they almost always promote the abortion
providers' agenda while ignoring or seeking to discredit those
who believe in Life.
The reality is that the media
and Hollywood depend
on the Henry Waxmans of the world to get out the message
they want to deliver. The media can't just ‘make up' facts. They
rely on ‘reputable' congressman like Henry Waxman
to do the heavy lifting for them. He carves up the facts
on abstinence the same way anti-Christian forces carve up and
attempt to discredit the Word of God - and the media reports
it as Gospel.
We must to tell Rep. Waxman and the major press that distorting
information to make successful programs appear to be failures,
while failing to report the truth about such a critical issue for
our nation's families WILL NOT STAND.
Please consider joining our petition to the media on this critical
issue.
